About Andy Lay
For over fifty years, I have been an amateur photographer. For the last ten years or so, I have described myself as a serious amateur which I jokingly define as one who invests heavily in their photography but makes little in return. As an undergraduate at Princeton University, I was taught the importance of precision and excellence in the photographic process, both behind the camera and while in the darkroom. During these recent years, my technical and artistic photographic skills have developed as a direct result of my association with the Cowtown Camera Club (formerly known as the Lockheed Martin Camera Club) in Fort Worth, Texas. By far, though, my greatest improvement has come through my wife of 38 years who is a natural-born visual artist. She has taught me how to find the artistry and beauty in my images and has changed the way I see the world. I currently compete in the Cowtown Camera Club’s master class and have had the honor of serving as the Club’s president for three years. I have also benefited by membership in other organizations such as the Photographic Society of America (PSA) and the Professional Photographers of America (PPA). My photographic interests are quite diverse and as an aerospace engineer, I enjoy post-processing just as much as capturing images. I enjoying learning and using as many photographic tools as I can get my hands on. My latest endeavor is expanding into drone photography with the acquisition of my first flying camera, a DJI Mavic Pro.
